Free software, the easy way.

April 25, 2011

Take your new PC home and go to http://www.ninite.com.This website takes care of everything you will need for a new PC. Scroll down the list and select what programs you need. For a brand new PC, I recommend you uninstall any trial security software they included and install the free stuff here.
Why is the free stuff better? There are a number of reasons.

  1. It’s free. No $50/year just so you can feel safe.
  2. It’s lightweight on your PC, not really invasive by design.
  3. You can freely distribute it to friends without fear of some agency sending lawyers after you.
  4. Updates are usually free, and you have no commitment or subscription to worry about.
